The participants of the inaugural AJ Bell World Triathlon Leeds Virtual Challenge have generously donated £10,290 to Leeds Cares...
The Local Organising Committee (LOC) of the AJ Bell World Triathlon Leeds and the International Triathlon Union (ITU) were forced to postpone 2020’s event last month but are now in a position to confirm that the event will be rescheduled for 2021.
The AJ Bell World Triathlon Leeds was due to take place on 6 – 7 June 2020 around the Yorkshire city, but was postponed due to the ongoing COVID-19 situation.
Due to the ever-changing nature of the pandemic, the decision has been made to move the event to next year in order to give clarity to participating athletes and to ensure that they have enough time to fully prepare for the race.
The LOC will confirm the specific date by the end of September 2020, following consultation with the ITU concerning the World Triathlon Series calendar, with the likely date to be in late spring/early summer period.
Participant entries will automatically be transferred to the rescheduled date and will form part of the biggest festival of the sport in the UK, with not only Olympic athletes taking to the roads of Leeds, but newcomers, children and age groupers also taking part.
The race will maintain the route from 2020, with the start taking place in Roundhay Park before athletes travel through Headingley and into the city centre where they will be met with the roar of the grandstand in Millennium Square.
