Yorkshire Championships


Yorkshire Championships will debut at this years AJ Bell World Triathlon Leeds. With the fourth edition of the World Series Leeds happening in 2019, this new and exciting opportunity offers the regions triathlon community a shot at a local title as well as show off their Yorkshire Pride. 

Year on year, the people of Yorkshire have come out in force to support the event whether that be joining thousands of triathletes in the sprint and standard races or taking to the streets to cheer on the amatuer and elite races through out the weekend. Now we're giving you something back and ownership of the event in 2019 with the Yorkshire Championship Wave! Just select the Yorkshire Championship wave when you enter the Standard Distance:

Who can compete in the Yorkshire Champs?

As long as you live in Yorkshire, you are eligable to compete! The champs is only available over the standard distance waves, you can find entry here

How do I join the champs?

Joining the Yorkshire Championships is easy, when you enter simply select the "Yorkshire Champs Wave" under the "Wave Request" section. Don't worry if you have already entered, just log back into Active and edit your registration.

Anyone living in the Yorkshire region, plus those who belong to a Yorkshire-based triathlon club are eligible to compete for a 2019 Yorkshire Championships title, with prizes being awarded to the top three men and women overall. In accordance with the British Triathlon Competition Rules, those taking part in the British Standard Distance Triathlon Championships at the AJ Bell World Triathlon Leeds, or attempting to qualify for the Great Britain Age-Group Team, will not be eligible to also compete for a Yorkshire Championship title. The Yorkshire Championship wave is standalone and will take place separately to the standard distance waves which form the British Championships. Therefore conditions in both waves will differ, making it unfair to allow the option of challenging for both titles.

Who can take part?

You must be 17 or over to take part (on the 31st Dec 2019). It is compulsory to wear a wetsuit, and you will need a road worthy bike though this doesn’t need to be a fancy one! You can get advice on hiring both a wetsuit and a bike from the event organisers if you need to.

The AJ Bell World Triathlon Leeds and Accenture World Triathlon Mixed Relay Nottingham are the first officially SH2OUT accredited triathlon events, meaning that the safety of the open water swim is at the highest recognised level possible. Prior to taking part in your event, please make sure you have taken reasonable steps to prepare. Look out for additional open water swimming tips from SH2OUT.

SH2OUT is a partnership between British Triathlon and the Royal Life Saving Society (RLSS UK) providing appropriate support to the development of standards that ensure a safe and compelling open water swimming experiences for all participants.

*A British Triathlon Day License must be purchased with entry for race insurance where a individual(s) entering do not hold a British Triathlon Home Nation Membership.
